An Emirati traveller has highlighted the speed of Dubai passport renewal services after reportedly receiving a new UAE passport in just eight minutes at Dubai International Airport.
The traveller was due to travel the following day when he realised that his passport had only about one month of validity remaining. His destination required travellers to have at least six months of passport validity, creating a last-minute travel problem.
Dubai Passport Renewal Takes Just Eight Minutes
Looking for a quick solution, the Emirati traveller was directed to the passport renewal service at Dubai International Airport.
He said he was initially told that the process could take around 10 minutes. However, according to his video shared online, the Dubai passport renewal was completed in just eight minutes.
The experience has since attracted attention on social media, with the traveller praising the efficiency of the UAE authorities and Dubai Airport.
The eight-minute result should be viewed as this traveller’s reported experience, rather than a guaranteed processing time for every passport renewal application.

UAE Passport Renewal Rules Changed
The incident also highlights an important change in UAE passport renewal rules.
Since August 18, 2025, UAE citizens have been allowed to renew their passports when one year or less remains before expiry. Previously, the renewal window was generally limited to six months before expiry.
The change was introduced to help UAE citizens plan international travel earlier and avoid problems caused by passport-validity requirements imposed by different countries.

Passport Renewal Service at Dubai Airport
UAE government information confirms that passport-related services are available through several channels, including digital services and airport facilities.
For UAE nationals, passport services are available at Dubai Airport on a 24-hour emergency basis, according to the UAE government’s official platform. GDRFA Dubai also lists a Customer Happiness Centre at Dubai International Airport Terminal 3 for passport renewal services.
For travellers, the key lesson is simple: checking passport validity well before departure can help avoid last-minute complications, particularly when the destination requires six months or more validity.
Dubai Continues to Speed Up Airport Services
The passport renewal story comes as Dubai continues to introduce faster technology-driven services at its airports.
Dubai & UAE Travel Guide: Tips, Planning & Essential Information
Earlier this month, GDRFA Dubai launched Click and Travel, a mobile immigration service that allows officers to process passengers away from fixed passport-control counters. The system uses biometric verification and can complete transactions in approximately 12 to 15 seconds.
For an Emirati traveller facing a last-minute passport problem, the reported eight-minute Dubai passport renewal experience offers another example of how quickly essential government services can be accessed at Dubai Airport.
