Dubai, UAE: The iconic Burj Khalifa has officially entered the global race to become one of the Seven Wonders of the Contemporary World, an initiative launched by the World Travel & Tourism Council (WTTC). The campaign celebrates the world’s most influential modern landmarks and invites people worldwide to nominate and vote for the structures that have transformed tourism, architecture, and global travel.

Standing at 828 metres, Burj Khalifa is the tallest building in the world and one of Dubai’s biggest global attractions. Since opening in 2010, it has welcomed millions of visitors and become a symbol of innovation, engineering excellence, and modern urban development.The WTTC says the campaign aims to recognize landmarks built during the modern era that have made a lasting impact on tourism, local economies, and cultural identity.

The global campaign officially began on July 7, 2026. Around 70 landmarks will be shortlisted before public voting begins in early 2027. The final Seven Wonders of the Contemporary World will be officially announced on July 7, 2027.People from around the world can participate by supporting their favourite modern landmarks.
Museum of the Future Also Earns Recognition
Dubai has another strong contender in the campaign. The Museum of the Future is also among the nominated landmarks, highlighting the UAE’s growing influence in futuristic architecture and tourism.Other famous landmarks expected to compete include Big Ben, the Sydney Opera House, the Eiffel Tower, Marina Bay Sands, and several internationally recognised architectural icons.
